Training with the guys on the crew is going really well. We learn something new about the boat and each other with each outing.

Mark has been sailing with his Dad since he was 15 years old, and discovered a real talent for rowing while at school. After a spell with the Tideway Scullers competing at senior level, he joined the London Fire Brigade.

He left after seven years to get some qualifications with the RYA and MCA in order to pursue a career in yachting, subsequently working his way through the ranks to become a super yacht Captain, taking his first command in April 2007.

In 2006, having spent all of his holiday time over the previous 5 years attending courses and examinations, Mark decided to go on holiday to South America and in Bolivia did his first climb on Mt Huana Potosi, and was hooked! There followed climbs on Mt Aconcagua, Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Cho Oyu and finally at the end of May 2010 Mark reached the summit of Mt Everest.

Mark tends to move around a fair amount; however, during times when he has actually managed to sit still for a few months, he rowed at Plymouth and Monaco rowing clubs. Other than that he likes to keep fit by hiking and cycling, wherever he may be.

He was planning to row solo across the Atlantic East to West during the winter of 2011, however he has shelved this plan to concentrate on the Row to the Pole expedition.
